Green Mountain Falls is a small town sitting right off one of the worst highways in Colorado for rock chips. Every trip in or out is on Highway 24 through Ute Pass, where the canyon walls shed rock, the road gets sanded all winter, and traffic moves fast between Woodland Park and Manitou. People here get chips no matter how carefully they drive.
Cars here also spend a lot of time parked under trees and up against hillsides. Sap, needles and grit pile up in the cowl at the bottom of the windshield and hold water against the metal. When we pull old glass in the Ute Pass towns, we find more rust in that channel than we do in the city, and it has to be dealt with before the new glass goes in.
Easier than driving down the pass
The alternative to mobile service up here is driving a damaged windshield down a curvy canyon highway with low sun and summer tourist traffic, leaving the car, and finding a ride home. With a crack in your line of sight, the drive is the risky part.
We work at houses around the lake and the gazebo, up the side streets, and out to Chipita Park and Cascade. We need a level spot with some room around the car and dry glass. Narrow street? Tell us when you call and we'll plan around it.
Cost and timing
A chip repair is about $60 to $110 and takes 20 to 30 minutes. A windshield on an older car with no sensors is usually $250 to $400. Newer cars with a camera need recalibration and run $550 to $1,100. The install takes an hour to an hour and a half, plus one to three hours before you drive. In a mountain town in the winter, plan on the longer end.

Do you really come out to a town this small?
Yep. Green Mountain Falls, Chipita Park and Cascade are all in our normal area, with no trip charge. It's the same road we take to Woodland Park.
My wipers streak and chatter. Is that related?
Often, yes. Sap and grit from parking under trees gunk up the blades, and a gunked-up blade drags instead of wiping. Over time that scratches the glass. New blades and a good cleaning now can save the windshield later.
